Director of Family Ministry

Yorkminster Presbyterian Church is looking for an enthusiastic individual, with a heart for Jesus and serving the church, to connect children, youth, and families in a community where they can learn to glorify God, grow in spiritual maturity, serve as Jesus did, and join in God’s mission to the world. The Director of Family Ministry will tend to the spiritual growth of children, students and their families through a variety of programs and offerings such as small groups, youth group, Sunday School, retreats, Family Gatherings, VBS and mission opportunities. This person will work closely with the Pastor and the rest of the staff to provide leadership for volunteers serving in Family Ministry and will recruit, train and oversee a team of adult lay leaders who serve hands-on with our children, students and families. In addition, the Director will work to keep our commitment to families fresh and relevant by regularly evaluating and renewing the vision and purpose of Family Ministry.

General Qualifications

• Exhibit a maturing relationship with Christ and possess sound biblical knowledge and a theology consistent with the reformed tradition of the Presbyterian Church (USA)
• Enjoy working with children, students and families and be enthusiastic about growing them in the knowledge and love of Christ
• Ability to inspire others to serve and participate in family ministry
• Ability to build, plan, administer, and direct programs
• Be skilled at leading teams of adults and students
• Possess organizational and administrative abilities and effective written and verbal communication skill
• Be comfortable speaking and teaching in front of both small and large groups, including in front of the entire congregation
• Exercise initiative and judgment as an independent worker
• Demonstrate strong competence in technology, including effectively utilizing platforms of digital communications and social media to enhance ministry.
• Work well with other staff and under the direction of the Pastor
• Communicate effectively and in a timely fashion
• Ability to work smoothly and effectively as part of a multi-person staff church
• Exhibit an ability to be flexible, available and willing to work odd hours
• Possess a college degree
• Experience working with children, youth and families in a Christian setting preferred, though not mandatory

Duties and Responsibilities

• Be a visible presence in the lives of our children, students and families, investing in caring and meaningful relationships with them
• Support the Vision and Mission of the church and Pastor
• Be an active participant in the worship, life, and ministry of the church, as well as tend to your own spiritual practices and growth
• Work well with and continue to build upon existing lay leadership by helping train and
develop them for ministering to children, students and families
• Provide spiritual and practical leadership to children, students, and their families, from nursery through high school
• Recruit and equip a core leadership team
• Plan/implement weekly programs for children K-12
• Offer discipleship and outreach opportunities, including retreats and mission trips
• Oversee the Sunday morning nursery staff
• Promote Family Ministry printed and electronic communication across various social
platforms
• Facilitate and conduct on-going communication with families regarding family care issues, sharing with the Pastor as appropriate
• Coordinate with larger church ministry and teams
• Oversee VBS each summer, with the support of the rest of the church staff and volunteers
• Maintain continuous education and personal study in topics related to the position
• Other functions as designated by the Pastor
Oversight and Supervision: Reports to the Pastor/Head of Staff
