Omotesando, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Japan

Director of Youth and Children's Ministry and Pastoral Assistant at Tokyo Union Church in Tokyo, Japan

International, English-speaking congregation. www.tokyounion.org

The Pastoral Assistant is a member of the Pastoral Team of three, along with the Associate Pastor and Senior Pastor (Steve Yamaguchi, former Dean of Students and Asst. Prof. of Pastoral Theology at Fuller Seminary).

An opportunity to serve Christ and a dynamic, complex expression of Christ's church in the heart of one of the largest cities in the world.

English-speaking ministry. While the common language is English, 65% of the people speak a different first language. 50% Japanese members, the rest from around the world. Very diverse religious backgrounds from mainline to non-denominational to Catholic to Baptist to Pentecostal. All grounded in Christ at the center. The Pastoral Assistant must have strong intercultural skills and wisdom. Most of our youth and children are from mixed and international families.

COVID-19 precautions are thorough and effective, in line with national policy and practice. Masking is practiced nation-wide. Japan has one of the lowest COVID infection rates and the highest vaccination rates in the world.

English language required, other languages can be helpful. Japanese language is useful for living but can be learned if not already familiar.
