Next Gen 56/Confirmation Lead Shepherd

Summary
The 56/Confirmation Lead Shepherd is responsible for providing vision, leadership, and continued strategic development of The Woodlands Methodist Church’s (TWMC) 56 Ministry and of the catechesis for confirm ands which remains faithful to Christian orthodoxy and aligns with The Woodlands Methodist Church’s (TWMC) mission to reach people to Jesus Christ, disciple them in faith, and help those in need.

Essential Functions
Provide prayerful, visionary leadership for 56 and Confirmation Shepherds and the overall function of the Confirmation experience. This includes:

Relational Leadership

Create a culture where volunteers love to serve by recruiting, coaching, equipping, and empowering a full team of volunteer leaders for Next Gen Ministries.
Host summer parent information sessions.
Coordinate local mission opportunities for student participation.
Recruit, train, and nurture parent color group leaders.
Recognizing parents as a child’s primary faith trainer, provide weekly communication to color group leaders and parents.
Performs all job duties in accordance with the theological beliefs and standards of TWMC.
Provides pastoral counseling to children in age-appropriate ways, in compliance with TWMC’s Safe Sanctuary and Sexual Ethics guidelines.
Align ministry activities with the mission, goals, and values of Next Gen Ministries and The Woodlands Methodist Church.
Collaborate with the Special Blessings team to support families of kids with special needs.
Lead weekly Chapel at The Woodlands Methodist School.
In conjunction with the 56-ministry team, minister to the staff and students at The Woodlands Methodist School.
Attend 56 ministry staff meetings, church staff meetings, and other meetings deemed appropriate by the Executive Pastor of Next Gen Ministries.
Perform other duties as requested by the Executive Pastor of Next Gen Ministries.
Strategic/Operational Leadership

Collaborate with Next Gen Ministries leadership to develop and implement ongoing and effective orientation, placement, and onboarding process for volunteers. Ensure alignment to these policies.
Administer group selection process and track student participation year-round.
Selects and/or creates religious content and curriculum, including worship experiences, Bible study, and other programs. Lead and teach Sunday morning confirmation classes at 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
Plan and implement the parent/student Fall weekend retreat (off-site).
Plan and implement the student Spring retreat (½ day local or on-site).
Evaluate confirmation program for effectiveness and adjust as needed.
Manage materials preparation, including ordering, planning for volunteer preparation, set-up, and storage.
Ongoing development of catechism curriculum; student journal; leader guide, and Sunday morning parent sessions.
Develop parent companion guide, on-going parent’s sessions with bridge into adult discipleship, field visits to local varied denominational worship services.
Responsible for leading 56 students toward maturity in their faith through teaching the Word of God.
Lead a confirmation team (administrator/Confirmation Shepherd(s) in the preparation, organization, and ministry staff, and approved outside guests.
Oversee the catechesis of confirmands participating in the “crash-confirmation” (for those older than the 6th)
Administer the sacrament of baptism for those confirmands not yet baptized.
Administer the Eucharist as a sign and celebration of the confirmands coming into communion with the body of Christ.

Licensed/ordained persons strongly preferred.

Ability to envision, plan, and implement age-appropriate programming that supports the vision and values of Next Gen Ministries.
Ability to lead people and provide them with encouragement, guidance, feedback, and follow-up – to coach, train, and motivate volunteers.
Ability to work well independently, consistent with biblical truths and church policy.
Excellent organization, planning, goal setting, and time management skills.
Ability to write, plan, and teach lessons; to research, analyze, and communicate information for ministry and projects.
Computer and tech literacy: Basic competence with Microsoft Office, CMS, presentation software, website, and social media, and willing and able to be trained further.
Physical Demands

This position requires sitting, standing, lifting, reaching, and crawling.

Position Type: Full Time
Schedule: As is typical for ministry, this position requires a flexible schedule. It includes agreed upon onsite office hours, Sunday services, occasional Saturday services, evening activities and meetings, and camps requiring travel
Compensation: Dependent on experience
