About the job
I. PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Provide leadership and vision for adult spiritual formation and congregational engagement. Collaborate with the Adult Ministries Commission to initiate, implement, and oversee ministries related to adult education, programs, groups, and events. These initiatives should nourish and strengthen individuals' relationships with Christ while laying a solid foundation for growth in service and leadership. Work together with the team of Directors on churchwide initiatives and cross-commission projects.
II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
ADULT SPIRITUAL FORMATION
- Create an “Adult Spiritual Formation” mission description
- Design classes, groups, and programs that will strengthen and equip our members to engage with Holy Scripture, teachings of the church, and spiritual practices.
- Provide opportunities for members to explore their faith relative to today’s society and the demands of living a Christian life.
- Develop opportunities to raise up new leadership and equip them with leadership tools.
- Provide ongoing leadership with continuing leadership education and exploration of gifts and skills.
VISITORS AND NEW MEMBERS
- Create a “Visitor and New Member mission description”
- Develop a strategy for identifying and following up with visitors and regular attendees. Plan and develop a new members process that takes an individual from point of contact to assimilation and integration into the life of the church.
MATCHING PEOPLE WITH MINISTRY
- Create a “Matching with Ministry,” mission description
- Develop a strategy and process for matching individual congregation members with areas of gifts and interest and/or need. Promote the ministry of service as a biblical mandate, “Every member in Ministry”
SMALL GROUPS
- Create a “Small Group” mission description
- Design and implement a ministry of small groups that provides any member of the congregation with a place to belong and the means to cultivate community connections.
III. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Work well with a team of colleagues and exhibits “team” values
- Maintain a cooperative team spirit with members, non-members, lay persons and others who associate with the church.
- Must be a “people” person who is comfortable working with, instructing, guiding, equipping, and overseeing lay people.
- Can initiate new programming and integrate innovation and creativity into established programs.
- High level of communication, both written and verbal, skills
- Highly organized and capable of keeping assigned program areas simultaneously operational.
- Experience working in a church setting as a leader in a related field
- Has an appreciation and willingness to learn, work and abide by Presbyterian Polity and Practices.
Desirable
- 5 or more years working in a church setting in a related field.
- Masters degree or above in a related field.
IV. FAITH COMMITMENT
- Exemplify in word and action a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
- Understands and aligns with the basic tenants of Reformed Faith
