TITLE:                                    STARS K-3 Program Manager

OBJECTIVE:                         Manage the Afterschool Program for Grades K,1, 2 & 3

SCOPE:                  This position interacts specifically with K-3rd grade students and
their families in the Afterschool Program at Stars.

CLASSIFICATION:              This position is classified as non-exempt

SALARY:                               $20 - $24 per hour

Reports to Director of Education Initiatives, Karyn Farrar-Perkins
Supervises one Program Leader
Collaborates with internal staff and community partners
Member of Stars staff

23 hours per week
Must be available Monday – Thursday, 3pm-7pm (During school year)
Must be available Monday - Friday during Summer session (hours TBD)
Occasional weekend events
Flexible administrative hours

The ideal candidate possesses:
a)    a commitment to Stars’ faith based mission, vision, and values
b)    experience working with K-5th grade students
c)    public or private school classroom experience
d)    experience working with diverse population
e)    proof of being fully vaccinated with booster for COVID-19
f)      excellent interpersonal and communication skills
g)    Spanish-speaking skills preferred, but not required
h)    a high level of integrity, self-motivation, innovation and a desire for excellence
i)      Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
j)      proficiency in Google products


With the support and assistance of a Program Leader, the Program Manager is responsible for establishing and nurturing a culture in which students, families, and volunteers:

g)    understand the Afterschool program goals, expectations, and requirements

With the support and assistance of a Program Leader, the Program Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the Afterschool and Summer Programming:

a)    oversee the application, interview, and selection process
b)    ensure high quality implementation of all program components
c)    engage in logic model revisions in a collaborative fashion
d)    design and enforce an evidence-based behavior guidance system
e)    provide an optional time and space for spiritual formation
f)      develop an efficient system to update student records and track academic progress
g)    responsible for ensuring volunteers are prepared and supported while they serve and regularly communicating all information pertinent to their success as tutors. This includes student information that may affect their progress
h)    strategically pair tutors and students for maximum benefit to both
i)      ensure student assessments are done regularly
j)      stay current on grade-specific performance indicators for grades K-5
k)    light custodial and sanitation duties may be required
l)      perform other related duties as necessary

The Program Manager will collaborate with:

a)    Director for planning, innovation, evaluation, and mentoring
b)    Program Leader for planning, innovation, implementation of strategies and mentoring
c)    Afterschool & Summer program families for relationship building and partnership
d)    Stars’ staff, volunteers, ministry leaders, and community partners for support
e)    Pasadena Unified School District and Collaborate Pasadena for support
f)      Committee members and event organizers for support
g)    Speakers and trainers at workshops and conferences for support
