Position Description – Ministry Fellow

Working Relationship
Supervision Received: From the Senior Pastor with emphasis on collaborative ministry leadership that maximizes both the giftedness and continuing education of the Ministry Fellow.

Description
The Ministry Fellow leads the church in its work of being formed in the image of Christ and sharing as the presence of Christ in the world.  This minister is responsible to the Senior Pastor and Personnel Committee in accordance with church policy.  This minister shall:

Work with the Senior Pastor, ministers and staff to give leadership to the spiritual formation and development of persons inside and outside the church to enable each person to grow in the knowledge of and service to Christ by:

a.     Developing a vision for the church which recognizes that God is already at work in our church, leading the congregation to notice and find ways to participate in this vision.

b.     Assisting the members of the church by engaging in spiritual practices to recognize God’s vision for reforming and transforming us.

c.      Finding ways to identify and catch God’s vision for our community and world and engage the congregation, both individually and collectively, in ministry opportunities as the hands and feet of Christ.

Collaborative Responsibilities

1.     Work with the Senior Pastor, ministers, staff and congregation to enhance the discipleship ministry of the church through its work with youth and their families by:

a. Evaluating formation programs and activities for youth and where needed, designing or enhancing opportunities for faith development.
b. Partnering with parents and caring adults to engage, educate, and empower youth.
c. Providing for ongoing spiritual growth and development of youth teachers and leaders.

2.     Develop relationships with youth who visit or participate in activities through community groups that meet at Second Baptist Church, and youth served by mission partners.

3.     Evaluate how current ministries to youth can expand to include youth who visit or participate in activities through community groups that meet at Second Baptist Church, and youth served by mission partners.

4.     Create ministry activities and opportunities to engage youth who visit or participate in activities through community groups that meet at Second Baptist Church, and youth served by mission partners.

5.     Develop a vision for integrating and deepening relationships between Second Baptist youth and community youth with the goal of expanding our youth community and ministry impact.

6.     Create opportunities for church members to volunteer, make relationships, or offer hospitality to youth who visit or participate in activities through community groups that meet at Second Baptist Church, and youth served by mission partners.

7.     Work with the Senior Pastor, ministers, staff and congregation in creating a vision for deepening relationships and engaging the entire Second Baptist Community: church members, church attendees, ministry partners, and community groups.

8.     Work with the Senior Pastor, ministers, staff and congregation to care for persons both in the church and community through the ministry of pastoral care.

General Responsibilities

1.     Provide and maintain active, ongoing communication with the families of students and the congregation at-large about the age-specific ministries of the church.

2.     Maintain, in partnership with the Church Financial Administrator and Senior Pastor, accurate financial records, monitor income and expenses, and prepare annual budget requests.

3.     Meet regularly with the Senior Pastor and other ministers to review youth and community ministry programs, assess ministry needs, and evaluate the overall ministry to youth and the community.

4.     Provide the Senior Pastor, at least annually, a plan for personal development.

5.     Provide the Senior Pastor, annually, performance goals, objectives, and standard for the coming year and a corresponding assessment plan for measurement and evaluation.

6.     Carry out other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Qualifications

1.     This person shall be an exemplary Christian and be called to ministry.

2.     This person shall be a degreed individual, with preference given to an accredited seminary degree, in his/her first full-time ministry call.
