Position Status: Full Time
Summary Job Description:
Santa Ynez Valley Presbyterian Church (SYVPC) desires a Senior Pastor who demonstrates a devoted relationship with our Lord, is rooted in the Scriptures, has a passion for and personal practice of make disciples, communicates the love of Jesus and the joy of the Lord to those being pastored, and holds doctrinal views consistent with those of ECO. The pastor should aspire to, and reflect, the character qualities for leadership as noted in the scriptures (e.g. 1 Timothy 3:1-7). The pastor will be committed to the service of Christ and this church, preaching and teaching the Word of God, administering the sacraments, and faithfully doing pastoral work. The pastor will preach at worship services and will be involved in the design of weekly worship services and working with the worship leader. The pastor will work with Session to establish and implement the ministry plan for this church. In addition, the Senior Pastor will seek to discern God’s vision for our church, lead, coach and disciple the staff in spiritual and ministry development, and partner with our leadership to empower church ministries.

1. Our future Senior Pastor, who is called, should be a warm and loving individual who is an encourager, is approachable and available. We are looking for the right person who has good communication skills, loves interacting with people, is a good listener and is humble.
2. Be a vibrant and personable Sr. Pastor who is filled with the joy of the Lord and is able to teach and preach from the Word of God that leads to spiritual growth of the congregation.
3. Provides an inspiring worship service that brings people to faith in Jesus Christ.
4. Provides worship leadership in all aspects of the worship service: preaching, teaching, prayers and music.
5. Works with Session in a “shared role” developing the vision and direction of the church both short term and long term.
6. Inspires the creativity of the staff to develop a well-rounded ministry for spiritual growth, fellowship, evangelism and mission.
7. Provides vision and guidance for SYVPC’s Christian Education programs including children, youth and adult.
8. Develops a close relationship with the SYV Presbyterian Preschool leadership, teachers, and parents of preschoolers on our campus. The Senior Pastor will work with staff and our volunteer teams to develop and execute a strategy to reinvigorate our youth and children’s programs.
Qualifications:
1. Master of Theology, or its equivalent, from an accredited seminary.
2. Committed to Christian Reformed Theology and ECO Essential Tenets and Confessional Standard.
3. Ordained by ECO, or by another Reformed denomination and eligible for ECO ordination.
4. Demonstrated significant pastoral experience, relevant experience growing a congregation and supporting a preschool, children’s and youth ministry programs.
5. A devoted follower of Jesus whose life reflects the fruit of the Spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Compensation and Benefits:
Competitive salary and housing depending on experience
10% of salary and housing for retirement (403b)
Health insurance for pastor, spouse and children under 26.
4 weeks of vacation
1 week personal study leave
Professional education expense reimbursement up to $2,000
Ministry business expenses up to $1,500
