PCCO YOUTH AND CHILDREN MINISTRY AT A GLANCE
The vision of YCM is for all of the youth and children who attend PCCO regularly to:
have the chance to hear and respond to the gospel;
develop a personal relationship with Christ, and be raised up following Christ as their Lord;
enjoy reading and obeying God’s word, and be passionate witnesses for Jesus Christ;
be built into a stronger community for Christ.
Youth Ministry Profile (As of January 2022)
Age range: 10 to 17 (6th to 12th grade)
Sunday attendance: 28 students (Average 22) (15 boys and 13 girls)
Number of families: 24 (21 CC families and 3 OIF families)
Children Ministry Profile (As of January 2022)
Nursery: average 4 students (lower due to pandemic)
Toddler Class: average 8 students
ESS (Elementary Sunday School, 1st to 5th grade): average 16 students (24 during the summer of 2021)
The YCM Pastor shall:
meet the requirements for this office as listed in 1 Tim 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9;
sustain personal growth in life, skills and depth of knowledge for ministry;
demonstrate a clear calling for pastoral ministry;
exhibit experience and passion to reach, teach, and train youth and children for Christ;
have the desire to serve in and learn about the Asian community, and be comfortable serving in an international/multicultural environment;
agree to adhere to the PCCO Constitution, Bylaws, Doctrinal Statement and overall church organizational structure;
possess (or be willing to acquire) up-to-date FBI and child abuse clearances.
The following are desired but not required of the YCM Pastor:
Possess an MDiv degree (or currently pursuing a master’s degree) from an accredited seminary
Be conversant in Mandarin Chinese
Be culturally aware of 1st and 2nd generation Asian American Challenges
Have the desire to stay longer term at PCCO.
The primary areas of responsibility for the YCM Pastor are the following:
Hospitality and Caring
In Leadership, the YCM Pastor is responsible for:
promoting a vision leading to a strategic plan for the YCM, working with the pastoral staff so that the plan will be in concert with PCCO’s overall vision;
communicating the vision and plans effectively to the YCM volunteers, parents, youth, children, church leaders, and both congregations;
representing the needs of the YCM to the PCCO Council and the core team.
In Ministry, the YCM Pastor will:
personally coordinate the middle school and high school group and create an environment where students who decide to follow Christ are discipled and mentored in a small group environment by selected individuals (such as 6th-12th grader youth to mentor younger children and college students to mentor the youth, etc.);
equip, mentor and support PCCO parents, YCM leaders and volunteers so that they can carry out their ministries, using his life as an example for others to follow;
work with the YCM core leaders to decide on or design curriculum for the Toddler, Pre-Kinder, Elementary Sunday School, Youth Group, and various children’s worship classes;
design and coordinate YCM special events such as VBS, Christmas and Easter programs, and summer youth retreat;
preach or teach God’s Word on a somewhat regular basis, instructing the congregations through messages developed through his personal knowledge of the Lord;
spend around 70% of time in the Youth Ministry, and 30% in the Children Ministry.
In Administration, the YCM Pastor will:
oversee the execution of YCM functions. These include but are not limited to weekly Youth and Children programs and YCM special events;
design and manage a yearly budget for YCM. Oversee the organization and maintenance of a resource system for the YCM team;
as a member of the pastoral staff, participate and work with the Council, other pastors, and Core Team for building up brothers and sisters in the church;
communicate regularly with the Council regarding YCM progress and effectiveness in meeting their ministry goals.
In Hospitality and Caring, the YCM Pastor will:
oversee the spiritual health and needs of the youth and children at PCCO, with regular life-on-life shepherding of the Youth, which is the priority group.
in consultation and collaboration with the other pastors, provide counseling for parents/families as needed.
model hospitality for YCM leaders, coordinators, and helpers.
Reporting Relationship & Procedure for Candidacy
The YCM Pastor will report to the Chinese Lead Pastor, and be held accountable by the PCCO Council.
