Chaplain Resident at PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital

The Chaplain Resident position provides qualified persons enrolled in PIH Health System full-time Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program with the opportunity to learn skills needed to be a clinical chaplain within the Spiritual Care Department at PIH Health.

The CPE Residency lasts for approximately 9 months (September - June). Residents complete 3 units of ACPE Certified CPE. One unit of CPE is required for admission to the CPE Residency.

1. Make spiritual care visits to patients and patient’s family members. Engage in spiritual care conversations, assessing and addressing spiritual needs as appropriate

2. Coordinate patient coverage with staff chaplains and other student chaplains on assigned units.

3. Develop collegial relationships with interdisciplinary staff on assigned units

4. Participate in activities, special events, and services sponsored by the Spiritual Care Department

5. Attend and participate in interdisciplinary rounds as appropriate, representing patient’s spiritual and emotional interests

6. Respond to patient, family, and staff requests for spiritual support, getting consultation as needed.

7. Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient visitations

8. Demonstrate PIH Health System’s vision of “Patients First” care

9. Actively participate with Spiritual Care Department staff as a student representative member of the team in meeting and joint activities for the benefit of the hospital

10. Perform other duties as assigned
