Background

Park Boulevard Presbyterian Church (PBPC) seeks to glorify God by engaging minds and guiding hearts into a life changing relationship with Jesus Christ. We are located on the corner of Park and Hampel in the Glenview neighborhood and have a rich 100+ year history in Oakland. We are a small, intergenerational, and diverse congregation that is committed to living life in the way of Jesus and to being instruments of peace in Oakland and beyond. We are looking for a Worship Director who can help us grow in faith and praise through our Sunday services.

General Description

The Worship Director is a part time position (8-10 hours per week) responsible for helping plan and lead worship services under the leadership of the Pastor. The Worship Director will be responsible for cultivating a congregational culture of worship through song and liturgy, rooted in traditional, contemporary, and global styles of worship.

Qualified applicants will have 3-5 years of previous worship leadership. They will be experienced in both traditional and contemporary styles of worship. They will have musical proficiency, a robust theology of worship, and a deeply committed faith in the way of Jesus.

Responsibilities and Duties

Work with the Senior Pastor in the preparation and planning of Sunday morning worship. Attend and contribute at weekly worship planning meeting. Choose songs for Sunday worship that fit with the overall theme and liturgy for that service and submit no later than Wednesday.
Update weekly slides with song lyrics and liturgy. Provide other worship aids as needed.
Practice and learn any songs in preparation for Sunday morning. Lead worship rehearsal before service on Sunday or another day as planned.
Keep track of songs sung and ensure we have a healthy “song diet.”Actively search for new songs to be added to our song diet.
Actively lead the congregation in worship in song and praise. Teach new songs in worship when presented to congregation.
Recruit, coordinate, and schedule volunteer musicians and singers. Schedule contract musicians and/or worship leaders for special services or as needed.
Provide worship leadership for special services or memorials on an as needed basis.
Oversee the maintenance and usage of all A/V equipment.

Monday-Friday: Varies.

Sunday: 9:00am-11:30am

Compensation

Based upon experience

We are looking for a start date no later than April 20, 2025. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the role is filled.
