Director of Operations at Palo Alto Vineyard Church

SUMMARY

Palo Alto Vineyard Church seeks a Director of Operations to strengthen and advance the church’s day to day operations, especially Sunday services. This fulltime, exempt role reports to the Lead Pastor, and supports the church’s mission, vision, and values by leading the church’s operations, finance, human resources, and communications. This role is responsible for overseeing our facilities, facilities staff and Sunday volunteers across key functional areas. The Director of Operations will be expected to work on Sundays and selected holidays when the church is in operation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure operational readiness of the church through leadership and oversight of church administration, finance, human resources, facilities management and communications.
  • Lead processes and planning efforts to achieve overall church operations objectives.
  • Design, implement and manage logistics and operational programming and support for Sunday Services, volunteer management, and special events.
  • Interpret, implement, and ensure compliance with church policies and procedures.
  • Recommend and/or formulate internal administrative policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Influence staff leadership on recommendations for current operations and future development.
  • Oversight of church finances, as well as developing, monitoring, and analyzing a consolidated annual budget.
  • Oversight of church payroll, insurance, finance, and benefits programs and corresponding vendor management.
  • Participate and/or support regularly scheduled church life meetings and events.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly leads and supervises the church facilities team. Dotted line relationship to Administrative Assistant.
  • Works closely with relevant team members on hiring and retaining staff, ensuring required training is completed, and giving input to the performance management process.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of ministry or organizational leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills including conflict resolution.
  • Sound judgment and strong leadership skills; experience developing staff professionally and building solid teams.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • HR Compensation & Benefits skills & experience, especially salary administration experience preferred.
  • Strong financial expertise in budget planning and financial forecasting.
  • Experience working in a church or community-based social service or social justice organization with socially and economically marginalized individuals is preferred.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and communicate written and verbal reports of key ideas to senior leadership. Strong analytical skills. Ability to evaluate programs and interpret outcomes.
  • Ability to work with a variety of internal and external constituencies. A team player who can interrelate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding work environment.
  • Ability to effectively run meetings and lead workgroups to achieve defined goals.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, balance multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and thrive in a complex environment with multiple and shifting priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to work effectively across cultures. Demonstrates a commitment to learning, communicating, and working respectfully with people different from themselves.
