Youth Discipleship Coordinator
(along with a Local Outreach focus)
Job Purpose: Supervise and nurture the Christian development of Junior High/High School students, and equip their adult/student leaders to also encourage and empower student spiritual growth (c.30hrs). Create and coordinate opportunities, gatherings, and events for students to connect with one another and to relationally reach others in the North Manchester area and beyond with the Good News. Oversee local impact opportunities for the First Brethren congregation to reach children and youth in our community (c.10 hrs).

Introduction and Information:
First Brethren Church is seeking qualified candidates to submit their resumes and cover letter with a short bio. North Manchester is located 25 miles southwest of Fort Wayne (between Warsaw and Wabash, IN). The small college town has a population of about 8,000 and is a great place to raise a family. First Brethren is an intergenerational church with a worship average around 280 (30 are JH/HS students).
Annual compensation will be based on education and experience, and additional funds are available for travel, conferences, and personal ministry expense reimbursements. However, the final salary and additional benefits (i.e. healthcare options) will be determined following interviews.
UP - Strengthening and maturing relationships with Jesus
Supervise and nurture the Christian development of Junior High/High School students, and equip their adult/student leaders to also encourage and empower student spiritual growth through…
1. Developing mentoring/discipleship opportunities (Discipleship Academy)
2. Organizing and promoting Bible studies, prayer groups, Faith Quest, camps, conferences, etc…
3. Teaching/speaking (Inside and outside the church as needed)
4. Developing a vision and educational plans for Sunday morning and evening sessions
IN - Fostering authentic relationships with fellow Christians
Create and coordinate opportunities, gatherings, and events for students to connect with one another.
1. Connecting relationally with students
a. Developing creative ways to integrate “non-connected” FBC youth
b. Assimilating new students
c. Attending youth functions at school and community events
2. Overseeing Student Ministries
a. Coordinating Wednesday night youth group and other special events
b. Encouraging the integration of youth into the larger church setting
3. Connecting and resourcing parents of youth.
a. Collaborating with the Adult and Children’s Discipleship Ministry leaders
b. Partnering with Family Ministry Team to create healthy discipleship within the family
c. Educating and training parents on youth related issues and resources
4. Utilizing Internships to develop leadership (recruit, train, supervise as needed/when appropriate)
OUT - Building relationships with and drawing non-Christians into a saving relationship with Jesus
Fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) by relationally reaching others in the North Manchester area and beyond with the Good News. Oversee local impact opportunities for the First Brethren congregation to reach children and youth in our community.
1. Training and empowering students to reach students
2. Collaborating with other appropriate youth ministries (i.e.Youth For Christ, FCA)
3. Leading mission trips (locally, regionally, and internationally)
4. Helping the entire FBC congregation in need-based evangelism efforts to reach local families,
especially children and youth.
a. Overseeing Youth Outreach Endowment
b. Assisting with Faith In Action Sunday and similar opportunities throughout the year
Additional Information
Meet regularly with the Youth Discipleship Ministry Team (Lead in cooperation with chairperson)
The Youth Discipleship Coordinator is responsible to the Lead Pastor and attends weekly staff meetings, as well as prayer and planning sessions with the other discipleship coordinators.
Assist Lead Pastor in other ministry responsibilities as needed
May include teaching, church vision and evaluation, visitation, baptism, counseling, etc.
Personal/professional development
Develop healthy ministry/life rhythms, and establish personal accountability and support systems
Attend retreats, conferences, and other events that will provide opportunities for spiritual renewal and growth as well as develop skills needed to effectively execute this position
Attend 3DM trainings to gain proficiency in understanding and teaching these concepts
Job Qualifications
Evident personal relationship with Jesus Christ
Biblically based faith & compatible beliefs with The Brethren Church doctrine and practices
Proficient understanding of challenges and needs of today’s teens
Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to use spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation software
Proficiency with social media
A love for students and their faith journey
Demonstrated ability to delegate responsibilities and train a team of adult and youth church leaders in order to accomplish a larger task
