Associate Pastor for Missions and Outreach
Seeking a candidate who is theologically sound and called to pastoral ministry. Should possess a passion for the Lord and for people. Should possess a vision for reaching the surrounding neighborhood with the gospel of Jesus Christ and growing Mount Vernon Baptist Church.
Should champion Mount Vernon’s philosophy of missions, which aims to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and impact local, regional, and international areas throughout the year. Should desire to teach and model a missions and outreach mindset for the entire church. Ability to work on a team and collaborate.
Full-Time Exempt (minimum of 40 hours/week)
Days Requirement: Sundays – Thursdays
Others as needed
Sundays 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.;with evening programming
Mondays 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Tuesdays 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Wednesdays 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. (8 hrs. throughout the day)
Thursdays 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Weekends as needed
Supervised by: Senior Pastor
Theological grounding in general with specific knowledge of theology of the church on mission in the community and world.
Ability and desire to lead people into a personal relationship with Christ and to help people grow closer to God in general and specifically through outreach and missions.
Ability to recruit and train people to add to Missions Teams and Outreach.
Ability to lead others through committees and ministry teams.
Ability to cast vision for growth in both outreach and missions.
Ability to evaluate and make recommendations to other ministry areas as they relate to outreach and missions.
Strong interpersonal relational skills for leading teams as well as interacting with the congregation in general.
Supervise the Missions and Outreach Ministry Assistant (or Administrative Assistant).
Lead the Missions Partnership Committee in monthly meetings to evaluate the ongoing missions program of the church, vision cast for the future, and implement plans.
Develop a comprehensive mission program for Mount Vernon through local, regional, and international mission opportunities in which the church membership can support financially, prayerfully, and through active participation.
Lead and encourage the congregation at large to develop a missional and biblical worldview in order to adopt a lifestyle of missions.
Supervise and organize a number of local missions in which our church can participate, including but not limited to: Missions Saturdays, Feeding the Hungry, Operation Christmas Child, Food Pantry, etc.
Supervise and organize several regional missions in which our church can participate, including but not limited to: Virginia Saints, Southwest Virginia Partnership, etc.
Supervise and organize our international partnerships with Alpha International Ministries and others related to the International Mission Board.
Supervise the implementation policies related to the Food Pantry.
Directly supervise and oversee benevolent requests as they arise from members of the church and from community members (in coordination with the Ministry Assistant).
Provide support for all mission teams through securing travel needs (flights, vans, etc.), room and board while traveling, supplemental insurance, and supplies.
Provide educational opportunities for the church at large related to missions.
Provide direction and support for youth local missions week and youth international mission trips.
Provide ongoing specific training and support in one-to-one evangelism.
Provide pastoral ministry in hospital visits, funerals, and weddings as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
