General Summary of the Position: The Director of Youth Ministry's primary focus will be the youth of MPPC who are in grades 6-12. A secondary emphasis will be on MPPC's college-age young people.

Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church  believes successful youth ministry includes ministry not only with the young people, but ministry with and to the families of MPPC's youth. Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church is a "total package." It will be imperative for the Director of Youth Ministry to develop a relationship with and to parents of young people, both those actively engaged in the ministry of the church and those listed on the roster but who are not actively attending. Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church believes these relationships will foster a supportive ministry for the families, and especially for the youth of MPPC.

The Director of Youth Ministry will work with the DCE as part of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church's Christian Education Team to plan, coordinate and implement a comprehensive youth ministry for middle school and high school young people. It will be important for the Director of Youth Ministry to connect with the youth and their families in an authentic way and in support of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church's Youth Ministry Mission Statement.

Reports to: Director of Christain Education

Qualifications:
Authentic and relatable to youth
Ability to nurture youth's spiritual growth
Organizational skills and willingness to work collaboratively with MPPC staff toward a shared vision
Passion for youth and ability to connect in the day-to-day context
Effective communication and active listening skills
Exercises leadership, yet empowers youth to share the youth's voices and gifts
Capability to reignite and re-energize the youth
Working knowledge of and experience in all forms of social media and electronic marketing platforms helpful

Core Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop, lead, and maintain a wholistic program for 6th through 12th grade youth of the congregation and their families that encourages young people in the faith and connects and engages the youth into the total life of the Church.
Work collegially with other staff in creating a "seamless" ministry to two distinct, yet supportive, youth ministries.
Recruit, empower, and support parents and volunteers to lead and facilitate youth programs and activities that are part of the youth ministry of MPPC.
Collaborate with Christian Education team, pastors, Church Ministry leaders and MPPC staff as appropriate.
Plan and coordinate a ministry the enables discipleship.
Create a safe and inclusive space for youth.
Provide opportunities for youth to engage in the church's ministry and mission.
Guide and engage PT Youth Interns in all aspects of youth ministry.
Teach the confirmation class and provide biblically based and theologically informed guidance to students, parents, and ministry volunteers.
Connect with young people post-high school into his or her college years, offering opportunities for faith development and connecting when young people are in the area, i.e. College Montreat Conference, summer Bible study or get together.
Attend Christian Education Sessional Committee meetings.

Educational Requirement:
Bachelor's degree required
Preferred two years minimum experience working with youth
Ordained and non-ordained individuals considered, although this is a non-installed position
