Description:

The Spokane Valley Baptist Church of Spokane Valley, WA is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches USA and is seeking to call a Senior Pastor for full-time ministry. This ministry leadership position includes: supervision of staff (pastoral and administrative), congregational care, partnership with the elected Executive Council, and collaboration in establishing and leading the church ministry vision.

Qualifications:

  • Education -Master of Divinity degree (preferred) or equivalent (Master of Theology, Master of Biblical Studies, etc) from a recognized and fully accredited theological seminary
  • Ordination - Must hold an ABC-USA recognized ordination or the equivalent thereof. A candidate  holding an ordination from outside the ABC-USA must agree to have their ordination recognized by Mission Northwest and ABC-USA.
  • Code of Ethics - Accept the Code of Ethics of American Baptist Ministers

Responsibilities:

  • Preaching - Prepare a stimulating scripture-based sermon to deliver at each Sunday service. Bring relevant sermons that impact individuals, the church, community, and the world. Weekly time will be spent in prayer, preparation, and reflection on the Word.
  • Teaching (Faith/Spiritual Development) - Lead individuals and groups to understand and enhance the spiritual dimension of their lives. Communicate a comprehensive understanding of the Bible and Christian theology in terms relevant to persons’ lives.
  • Pastoral Care/Counseling - Provide opportunities for persons to enter a healing relationship. Provide an empathetic understanding of and concern for persons in the routine and joys as well as the crises and transitions of life, giving assistance where appropriate. Make ongoing formal and informal connections with church family and friends.
  • Evangelism - Seek to lead persons to make decisions for Christ. Encourage their identification with and participation in the church. Equip lay persons for evangelism and mission. Be involved in community agencies and programs guided by the church’s vision/mission.
  • Nurturing Fellowship - Support an atmosphere in which people feel accepted, included, and cared for. Support the ministries of the church through encouragement and by attending most events and activities as time permits
  • Guidance for Worship - Coordinate with worship leaders to plan Sunday services and other special events. Participate actively in worship, offering feedback and suggestions for greater participation and effectiveness in the expression of praise, thanksgiving, and devotion to God. Provide an invitation to accept Christ and/or join the church at the conclusion of services (frequency tbd).
  • Special Occasions - Conduct weddings (w/premarital counseling) and funeral services for the membership. Conduct heartfelt child dedications. Conduct meaningful baptisms. Lead spiritual communion (first Sunday of the month and special occasions). Prepare for additional annual services – Holy Week, Christmas Eve, etc.
  • Staff Supervision - Coordinate with staff to plan and execute ministry goals. Provide general supervision to all paid ministry and support staff. Lead regular staff meetings for planning, evaluation, and direction. Meet with staff individually as needed.

Accountabilities:

  • Practice sound self-care by maintaining priorities of God-Family-Self.
  • Hold regular posted office hours. Work an equivalent of 40 hours per week … with at least one day off per week for rest and rejuvenation!
  • Actively work with the Executive Council for church planning, administration, and communication.
  • Collaborate with the Congregational Care Department to ensure care is provided to all members and attendees.
  • Support the other 5 church departments to assist in ministries and planning.
  • Connect with the Pastoral Relations Committee for ongoing support and evaluation. A formal evaluation will be conducted annually, with honest discussion addressing leadership and specific goal attainment.
  • Be involved with local/regional clergy, Mission Northwest and ABC/USA.
