Menlo Church is a Jesus-centered, multisite church in the San Francisco Bay area and a member of ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians. We’ve created a brand-new position dedicated to fostering a culture of generosity and sustainable giving. The Director of Generosity will provide leadership, contribute to the strategic direction of the church, and support a discipleship of generosity. This will include developing people, processes, and systems required to sustain the giving activities of the church. The Director of Generosity will need to have strong business acumen as well as a pastor’s heart.
Throughout our long history, Menlo Church has been blessed to have very generous congregants who helped fund the church and all of our ministries. However, relying on a small percentage of congregants is not sustainable. We need a Director of Generosity to help us strategize and implement a plan to inspire congregants across generations and socio-economic groups to embrace generosity as a core part of their discipleship to Jesus Christ. The Director of Generosity will collaborate with stakeholders to establish communication that emphasizes the discipleship nature of financial giving and highlights the ways our ministry dollars are used to inspire others to give. Talking about generosity should be built into the very fabric of who we are as Christ-followers. It should be woven into our preaching, online presence, and communications.
The Director of Generosity needs to have a strong collaborative nature and be able to work effectively in a matrix organization. You will report to the Executive Pastor and have a dotted line relationship to the Senior Pastor. In addition, you will partner with the Leadership Team (LT), Board of Elders (Session), and Church of the Pioneers Foundation (COPF) to develop and implement funding strategies across the church. The Director of Generosity will work with a cross-functional team which includes the Sustainable Giving Team, Campus Pastors, and other members of the Extended Leadership Team to achieve clear objectives and outcomes as a church where everyone is welcome, nobody’s perfect, and anything’s possible.

- Foster discipleship of generosity: Collaborate closely with Campus Pastors and Extended Leadership Team to sustain and build upon the existing generosity community.
- Develop funding channels and systems that support both operational (day-to-day) and aspirational (long-term vision) activities of the church including general contributions and tithing, capital campaigns, and other planned giving.
- Drive recommendations and business models for funding budgeted operational run rates, capital expenditures, and planned giving endowments through Donor Assisted Funds (DAF’s) and Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRT’s) for sustainable activities (missions, discipleship, and expansion).
- Design funding strategy for Menlo Church: Work with the Sustainable Giving Team to identify funding channels needed, preferred funding targets, and approaches for recommendations to Leadership Team and Session for approval, optimize and improve existing systems (Vision2) and processes.
- Enhance Churchwide Communications and Worship: Work with worship team and pastors to develop vision-casting and leverage Vision2 (giving platform) to share inspirational stories of missions and uses of God’s treasure. Collaborate to create powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising. Convey complex ideas through brief, simple materials.
- Cultivate Business Relationships: Establish relationships and funding opportunities with for-profit and other private entities that support religious institutions.
- Church of the Pioneers: Build new relationships with COPF to revisit existing funding models and consider joint and individual funding alternatives for MC and COPF respective missions.
- Manage and administer funding events: Drive and facilitate donor experiences through both physical and digital venues.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships by actively living out and championing our staff values of being humble, hopeful, and gritty.
- Additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive Pastor.

Required Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree or relevant experience in Marketing, Business Management, Finance, or related field
· Minimum 5 years’ experience providing financial leadership to a church or non-profit
· Demonstrated experience as a true business and ministry partner to Senior Pastor, Executive Pastor, and Extended Leadership Team level leaders
· Demonstrated progressive experience cultivating donor relationships (individual and institutional) in a church or non-profit setting
· Experience running capital campaigns and successful fundraising from multiple donor channels
· Experience planning, leading, and managing fund-raising and other development programs
Preferred Education and Experience
· MA or MBA
· Experience managing a team

· Days and hours of work are generally business hours Monday-Friday with occasional evenings or weekends as needed
