Senior Pastor at Mandarin Presbyterian Church

From the beginning of the COVID pandemic, we have sought counsel from leading health experts, as well as national, state and local leaders. With that in mind we are following the new CDC recommendations for those who are fully vaccinated for all adult gatherings at MPC.

Specifically, our application for adult gatherings inside facilities at MPC will be as follows:

For those who are fully vaccinated, masks and social distancing are no longer required.  Of course, you are always welcome to continue wearing a mask.
For those who are not fully vaccinated, we join the CDC in recommending to you that you continue to wear a mask.
We will now open up most rows in the sanctuary.  To accommodate those who prefer greater social distancing, we will continue to tape off a few alternate rows in the back portion of the sanctuary.

For children and student gatherings inside facilities at MPC, we will be adapting our protocols based on the local school districts new policies (St. Johns County Public School updated COVID guidelines and Duval County School Guidelines).
We will continue our current practice for K-12th grade children and students, requiring masks for indoor gatherings at MPC through June 6th.
Beginning with summer programs on June 7th, we will transition to the following health and safety procedures:

Face masks will be optional for all programming for children and students at MPC.
Gatherings of students off campus can also be mask optional, unless the host family has different protocols for their home.
Masks will still be required for all bus transportation provided by MPC. An exception to this is that the High School Mission Trip to South Florida this summer will follow the previously communicated protocols for testing and quarantine in preparation for that trip.
May we all assume the best of everyone we encounter as guidelines are opened at MPC and beyond.   Personal decisions regarding mask and vaccines are often influenced by medical and individual factors we can’t see. This pandemic has been hard. We’ve done our best to follow expert guidance to care for all people.   No set of protocols is going to appeal to everyone. As the passage from Philippians cited below suggests, let’s stay humble, show all the value for others we can, and push back against the unloving, divisive spirits of our age.

If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. (Philippians 2:1–4)

As has been our practice throughout the past year, we will revise our standards and communicate with you should further guidance from national, state and local experts lead to a change to our practices.
