About the job
The Big Picture
First Japanese Baptist Church (firstjapanesebc.org) is a very small, evangelical church in
Fort Worth, TX, seeking a full-time Senior Pastor who is committed to expositional preaching and sound, doctrinal teaching of God’s Word, while graciously taking care of the spiritual needs of the congregation.
First Japanese Baptist Church began in the 1970’s as a Japanese mission of Gambrell Street Baptist Church. In 1986, the Japanese mission fellowship stepped out from under the wings of Gambrell Street Baptist Church and became an independent church. This church was started by a group of Japanese Christian believers who desired to worship God together in their mother tongue, adhering to Biblical truth and growing in Christ through the Word, songs, prayer, and fellowship. We do not own our church building and are financially stable, albeit that monthly amount is quite low. Due to the unique situation of Japanese pastors generally only being able to pastor while a student, our pastor turn over rate is quite high. Because we are a very small congregation and cannot provide a work visa for a full time pastor, our previous Japanese pastors have served as long as they were able. Our current pastor had been called to serve full time as a church planter in Japan, and because his schooling is finished he and his family will go soon, and we are now searching for the next man of God to shepherd the church and faithfully preach the Word of God.
We are looking for an ordained man who is committed to expositional preaching and sound, doctrinal teaching of God’s Word. The ideal candidate would be Japanese and Japanese speaking, have some pastoral experience, a desire to shepherd God’s flock, and a commitment to a gospel- centered ministry to both the lost and the saints, and a willingness to serve while being bi- vocational. This is a full-time position.
We require a gracious, patient, and kind man that meets the qualifications in I Timothy and Titus. The pulpit has been faithfully filled over the years and we want a new pastor who is also gifted at preaching and teaching the Word of God. The church is congregational led, young, eager to grow in the Word of God and praying for the next pastor God would have for us.
