Position Title: Worship and Tech Director/Pastor

Reporting: Reports to the Lead Pastor

Classification: Part-time (20-24 hours/week) / EXEMPT


Position Summary: The Worship & Tech Director/Pastor partners with the Lead Pastor, Staff and Lay Leadership in nurturing and developing relationships, structures and spiritual practices (mostly expressed through music) that cultivate hearts of worship in HOPE Cov’s unique environment of grace. The Worship Director/Pastor is responsible for providing leadership to our musicians/worship leaders and tech volunteers in order to design meaningful, creative and Christ-centered worship experiences (i.e., Sunday morning services/gatherings).



Worship & Tech Team

(*NOTE: Our priority is on having a strong worship leader. If candidate lacks experience in the tech areas, hours can be adjusted to hire a tech director, or the Worship Pastor can manage volunteer techs who are capable)

  • Recruit, audition, train, disciple worship and tech team members
  • Work with Hope Staff to cultivate worship team growth in terms of character/walk with God (includes helping volunteers understand and live out discipleship)
  • Create team schedule for upcoming month by the middle of the current month; scheduling team members on a rotation that is healthy in order to avoid burnout
  • Select songs for worship services, including coaching and coordinating song selection on weeks when others lead
  • Help create flow of worship services with teaching pastor and staff
  • Lead rehearsals, sound checks, and musical elements of worship service
  • Responsible for oversight of all A/V aspects of the church, (primarily in the Worship Center) and delegating to others when needed
  • Responsible for keeping stage, and sound/tech booths clean and decluttered. Including the organization of the Worship Storage Room (left of stage)
  • Learn relevant software: Elvanto (scheduling and order of service), and ProPresenter (projection presentation), and develop working knowledge of video streaming in order to train volunteers
  • Scheduling qualified, competent techs for special circumstances/services (funerals, weddings, etc.)
  • Other events and duties as required.


HOPE Staff Team Responsibilities

  • Participate in weekly pastoral staff meetings, staff development sessions (currently Tuesdays 9:30AM-noon), and collaborate with the Lead Pastor and staff on church-wide strategic direction.
  • Participate in weekly service planning meeting with that week’s teaching pastor and other involved parties; coordinating and communicating important details when others are leading worship
  • Participate (and sometimes lead) creative processes, especially for Easter (and Lent season), and Christmas (and Advent season) worship gatherings
  • Meet regularly with the Lead Pastor to discuss ministry progress, coaching, development, and support for other personal needs
  • Participate at least 3 times a year in the monthly Elder’s meetings (usually 3rd Tuesdays at 7PM) to discuss the progress of worship and tech ministry areas




Preferred: Formal degree from an accredited institute of higher learning, preferably in Music, Biblical Studies, Spiritual Formation or Leadership (or equivalent experience)


Essential Experience:

  • Experience leading worship in a church or ministry context
  • Basic understanding of the dynamics of worship teams
  • Proficient in music, and the appropriate application of musical skills in a context of worship (in contrast to simply musical ‘performance’)
  • A posture of humility, leading to a strong desire to learn from other worship leaders and songwriters in order to become a stronger worship leader


Preferred Experience:

  • 2+ years in paid-staff vocational ministry (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 2 years managing and supervising volunteers and/or staff
  • Experience serving in the above areas in a larger (300+) church
  • Proven track record in building effective teams

  • A personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and evidence of living under the guidelines for leaders found in I Timothy 3: 1-7 and Titus 1
  • Demonstrate the growth and practices of a humble servant leader
  • Spiritually mature Christian with consistent and long-term track record of Christ-like behavior and a heart for service in ministry
  • Openness to coaching and healthy feedback from others in your circle of ministry
  • Passion and enthusiasm for discipleship and spiritual development; has a contagiously strong desire to bring others along as you “enjoy the journey”
  • Emotional and relational maturity
  • Relatable/Personable - can authentically and appropriately share about struggles, challenges or problems
  • Collaborative team leader who motivates and encourages others
  • Effective communicator in verbal and written communication (including social media)

  • Willing to meet membership requirements and make Hope Covenant their family’s home church (if applicable)
  • Committed to the priorities of the Evangelical Covenant Church through the ministries of the Pacific Southwest Conference and the denomination.
