Position Summary (Full Time):
The Associate Pastor for Adult Ministry is responsible for the leadership, discipleship, teaching and community building of the adults at Great Exchange Covenant Church in coordination with the Lead Pastor. A major area is “Life Groups” – our small group ministry which enables our adults to experience real relationships through studying God’s Word together.
1. Community Building
To lead and oversee all aspects of Life Groups.
To identify, develop, equip, and recruit Life Group Leaders to faithfully and effectively lead others to authentic faith in Jesus Christ.
To coach Life Group Leaders in various subjects, including Bible Study, accountability, belonging, care, mentoring, multiplying, managing conflict, facilitating discussion, and prayer.
To help Life Group Leaders navigate through questions, changes and growth.
To connect new and current people into existing Life Groups and to launch new Life Groups.
To particularly invest in our single adults, creating avenues for building community and making disciples of Jesus Christ.
2. Spiritual Formation
To work with the Lead Pastor to execute a strategy for spiritual formation through Life Groups.
To develop and provide teaching material, Bible Studies and experiences for adult discipleship in conjunction with Sunday worship services.
To create learning experiences and classes for adult discipleship.
3. Congregational Care
To provide pastoral care and counseling.
To participate in weekly staff meetings, off-site staff retreats and to meet occasionally with the GrX Leadership Team (Board).
To lead in worship through active participation in Sunday gatherings.
To administer the Sacraments and preach as needed in collaboration with the Lead Pastor.
Skills & Requirements:
The proven ability to lead people to authentic faith in Jesus Christ.
The willingness to journey and grow with the GRX community.
The ability to relate personally and thoughtfully to a wide range of adults at various stages of life.
The ability to think Biblically, prepare teaching material and to disciple others.
The ability to effectively build teams, equip leaders, communicate well and establish good working relationships with volunteers and staff.
The ability to identify, analyze, prioritize and resolve problems in a timely manner.
A Bachelors Degree in a related field is preferred but not required.
A Masters of Divinity degree is preferred but not required.
Ministerial License in the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) is required. If not ordained in the ECC, then the creation of a pathway towards ordination in the ECC or annual renewal of the ECC ministerial license will be needed.
At least two years of experience in the area of leading ministry with adults.
Opportunities to further strengthen pastoral gifts (leadership, administration, preaching, pastoral counseling, etc.) can be made available.
