A Senior Specialist for Staff and Faculty Formation in the Office of Mission and Ministry is a member of the team, working collaboratively in service of our departmental and university mission. Each of us is responsible for implementing various programs and ministries according to our unique skills and the needs of the division. These duties may include but are not limited to retreat ministry, liturgy, spiritual direction, program management, teaching, and advising. This job does involve evening and weekend work associated with the timing of particular ministries and programs.

Specifically, a Senior Specialist provides skills related to her/his/their formation and academic training. This role is primarily focused on preparing faculty, staff, administration to advance Gonzaga’s mission in all its dimensions. Key duties include program creation and implementation, teaching, consulting, mentoring, and strengthening relationships for the good of the university’s mission.

Relationship Management and Collaboration (30%)
• Work collaboratively with members of the Mission and Ministry team in service of our departmental and university Mission
• Maintain professional standards established by Gonzaga University and the Mission and Ministry team

Spiritual Leadership & Mission Formation (30%)
• Provide spiritual leadership and accompaniment to staff and faculty (as well as to students, alumni, Board members, administration, etc. as needed)
• Bring expertise and energy to bear on realizing the priorities of Gonzaga’s Mission Priority Examen, especially the “Jesuit Identity Initiative”

Program Management (30%)
• Design, implement, and coordinate programming to help community members make sense of Gonzaga’s mission as well as how to realize it in their work
• Focus specifically on resources for faculty, including opportunities to develop pedagogy, curricula, and advising skills
• Support the Office of Mission and Ministry in building bridges with academic units
• Create and amplify resources that make connections between our mission and the intellectual life
• Provide support for the liturgical life of the institution

Minimum Qualifications:

• Masters Degree in theology, ministry, pastoral studies, religious education or a related field from an accredited college or university; or a Masters degree in another field from an accredited college or university and at least 3 years of experience working in faculty and/or staff mission formation in higher education
• 3-5 years of experience related to area of specialty
• Familiarity with Ignatian spirituality and Jesuit education
• Demonstrated organizational skills, with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people.
• Good discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record

Desired Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in theology, ministry, pastoral studies, religious education or a related field from an accredited college or university; or a Doctoral degree in another field from an accredited college or university and at least 3 years of experience working in faculty and/or staff mission formation in higher education
• Strong background in Ignatian Spirituality, Jesuit/Catholic higher education, pastoral theology, contemporary church issues, ecumenical and/or inter religious relations, and leadership in mission and ministry
•7 years of experience related to area of specialty
