Solo Pastor, yoked congregations at First Presbyterian Churches of Polson and Dayton
Polson , Montana, 59860

We are seeking a solo pastor for our yoked congregations; Polson (90 members) and Dayton (30 members).

At the First Presbyterian Churches of Polson and Dayton, we strive to be the heart and hands of Jesus Christ, inspiring our fellow members and local communities through worship, music, mission, nurture, and education. We foster a welcoming and supportive atmosphere in which believers of all ages and backgrounds can grow in Faith, continually experiencing the renewing power and salvation of life in Christ.

Nestled between the pristine shores of Flathead Lake and the towering Mission Mountain Range, the Flathead Lake Parish contains a diverse and vibrant collection of small Montana communities whose Presbyterian Churches share more than a century of dynamic history.  Both congregations are relatively small but composed of dedicated and caring folks who are deeply invested in being God’s hands in our beloved community.  We emphasize cooperative hospitality and a warm, inclusive atmosphere.   Sunday mornings often have an extended family feel as we treasure the energy of our children and honor the wisdom and experience of our oldest members.  We foster lifelong, intergenerational bonds through the shared love of Christ, laughing together, remembering birthdays, and facing the tough times hand in hand.

Over the years, we have established a strong tradition of serving our neighbors through local, regional, and international mission efforts.  These include hosting a free, monthly community dinner, supporting needy local children and families with food and clothing, offering summer camp scholarships, and providing a special lunch for our graduating seniors to honor their achievement.  The Mission Valley provides a striking mix of retirement/resort paradise, rural ranching values and Native American reservation traditions.  We are called to make Christ the light that draws our diverse community together.

We are excited to welcome a new pastor who appreciates the unique natural beauty of the Flathead Parish and feels called and energized to work with the broad spectrum of ages, backgrounds, and passions of our congregation.  We need a caring, supportive companion for our collective faith journey as well as a strong leader who challenges us to change and grow in our Christ centered mission work. Our pastor must have an appreciation of how the world is changing and be proactive with ideas to increase membership,  excite the community, and avoid stagnation, while not losing sight of the traditions upon which the church is based. Our pastor will inspire us with dynamic, authentic, scripture-based Sunday morning sermons.  Our pastor will embrace the rural personality of our yoked parish that includes two churches with distinct congregations and worship services, seasonal attendance fluctuations and significant travel for meetings, pastoral care and presbytery responsibilities

Our new pastor will be responsible for the spiritual leadership, coordination, and day-to-day operations of our church.  This person will collaborate with the Session and congregation, coordinate church activities and help moderate Christ centered decision making.  Specific duties and responsibilities will require that the pastor:

  • Conduct worship, prepare, and deliver weekly sermons
  • Interpret Biblical scripture for the congregation
  • Coordinate with choir leaders to integrate music into worship
  • Moderate congregation meetings and the Sessions in Polson and Dayton
  • Provide care, counseling, and visitation to church members, assisting in crisis
  • Officiate at special services such as confirmations, baptisms, weddings and funerals
  • Assist, oversee and evaluate church staff and ensure the adequate functioning of church facilities
  • Offer regular Bible study opportunities
  • Fulfill Presbytery responsibilities
  • Initiate new member recruitment and education
  • Coordinate church Mission activities
  • Collaborate with Glacier Camp and Conference Center staff and activities
  • Work with church staff/members to establish and maintain online communication with congregation and social media presence
  • Organize outreach and activities for youth and young families
