In Student Ministry we seek to meet students where they are in their lives and faith. Student Ministry focuses on building relationships with students and walking alongside them on their faith journey so that they can deepen their relationship with God. Additionally, we seek to create a supportive community for families as they play a critical role in nurturing the spiritual lives of their students. FPCL, the students themselves and their families partner together to help raise children and students who know that they are loved for who God has made them, they are valued in our church, and they have purpose as they live their faith out in the world.

Job Description: The Director of Student Ministries will be responsible for the ministry to students (6th through 12th grade). In collaboration with the FPCL staff, the Director of Student Ministries will develop a relational strategy of ministry with students and families that is in line with the overall church vision of intergenerational ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Livermore.

Objectives and Responsibilities:

1.     Oversee ministry for 6th-12th grades. This includes Sunday morning middle school program, monthly events, and small groups for students.
2.     Develop a model of ministry that helps to build relationships with students, provides space for students to explore their faith, encourages questions, and partners with parents-support them as they seek to raise faithful youth.
3.     Plan monthly events for students. These events may include mission/service opportunities, fun events, relational building activities, etc.
4.     Teach and oversee the program for middle school students on Sunday mornings. This program should seek to engage students, connect faith with their day-to-day lives, and focus on relational ministry.
5.     Plan and coordinate annual Confirmation Class offered to students seeking to become members of the church.
6.     Grow a small group ministry for students where they can form meaningful connections with their peers and help foster their faith development.
7.     Build and work with a team of volunteers to support Student Ministry.
8.     Work closely with other staff to build intergenerational relationships in the church. Help connect students to other ministry areas within the church.

Minimum Requirements:
·      Ability to connect with and develop healthy, nurturing relationships with students, parents and adults.

·      Ability to articulate & share your faith in Jesus.

·      Commitment to valuing different perspectives and promoting an inclusive environment consistent with the values of FPCL.

·      Be centered in your faith in Jesus and trust God’s Spirit to speak to people who are in varying places/hold different perspectives in their faith.

·      Take the Bible seriously, though not necessarily literally.

·      Work to integrate students into the life of the larger church by exposing, introducing, and including them in the breadth of the church’s ministry.

·      Be a resource for parents and guardians who are in need of support and guidance as they raise their student.

Other Responsibilities:
Leading other aspects of the church’s ministry [mission, worship, Christian education, etc.] are possible depending on number of hours and particular gifts/interests of the candidate.

College degree with emphasis in youth and family ministry preferred.

Hands on leadership in youth ministry and counseling preferred.
