About our Ministry Context

The First Presbyterian Church of Flint is a mid-size, intergenerational congregation who gathers for worship, faith formation, and local mission in the heart of downtown Flint, Michigan. We are an historic congregation formed in the mid-18th century and over the past 180+ years, we have grown into a vibrant and eclectic family of faith from all over Genesee County.

Our approach to youth ministry has seen numerous iterations over the decades—sometimes more programmatic and event-driven in nature. At this point in our church's journey, we are searching for a relational, grassroots-driven, creative, and joy-filled person to help us think differently about youth ministry and to create lasting relationships between youth and the wider church family.

COVID-19 and FPCF

Our journey through the pandemic has been done in stages which aligned with the trajectory of COVID-19 in our area. We kept a record of the timeline of events and decisions we made related to COVID and safety measures on a dedicated website (www.transition312.org).

As far as our workplace safety is concerned the following measures were implemented and enforced during periods of high COVID transmission in our area.

  • Prior to the vaccine being available to the general public, the church office was closed for in-person work and all staff members worked remotely;
  • Post-vaccine, the office is open and our staff members mask while indoors for group meetings;
  • We strongly urge, without mandating, the reception of a COVID vaccine from our staff. We worked to ensure all staff members had access to a vaccine distribution site without inconvenience;
  • We established flexible policies concerning sickness for in-office work and encouraged staff members who are not feeling well to stay at home without any penalty to PTO allotments;
  • Throughout the pandemic, we continued to pay all staff members their full wages, regardless of whether or not they could perform their work;
  • We have installed air filtration systems throughout the church plant rated to eliminate the airborne particles that can transmit the virus that causes COVID-19;
  • Several other measures to ensure staff safety and support.
