First Church of Christ Wethersfield, one of the oldest and most historical Congregational churches in New England, is seeking a Senior Minister to lead the congregation into and beyond its 400th anniversary (2035). The current attendance is app. 175-250 each Sunday. The ideal pastoral candidate will have several years of pastoral experience, have a profound and public love of Jesus, be evangelically minded, an effective and charismatic preacher, one who appeals to all generations within a multi-generational and ethnic and racially diverse congregation, and an effective administrator who is committed to collaborative leadership.  First Church’s new Senior Minister will continue to advance the congregation’s history as a biblically-sound, Christ-centered, Spirit-led witness for Christ in our community.

 

SENIOR PASTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
The Senior Pastor shall be the spiritual leader of First Church. They shall also be the executive officer of First Church, subject to overall supervision by the President, and they shall be responsible for allocation of duties among the Pastoral Staff, subject to approval by the Board.

Duties:

The Senior Pastor: Plans and supervises all services of worship, serves as the main preacher, administering sacraments, and leading the church in prayer.  Shepherds the church working with the Pastoral Staff and others to ensure spiritual and pastoral care for those in need.  Sharing with the Membership a growing understanding of the Christian faith and its relevance to life situations.

Responsibilities:Oversees and coordinates the development and implementation of the vision, mission, and core values.
Participates with the Board in developing and updating the strategic plan for First Church.
Provides spiritual leadership to the church through teaching, leading, and modeling how to grow as a community of Jesus followers who love God, love one another, and make disciples. The Senior Pastor is responsible for sharing the scriptures, preaching the gospel, leading the Members and helping Ministries, and Standing Committees in the work of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,
Works with Deacons and Members to welcome congregants and guests, and those seeking a new church affiliation conducive to spiritual growth and discipleship.
Hires and or fires administrative, facilities and pre-school staff after consulting with the Human Resource Subcommittee. All disciplinary actions, conflict resolutions, or grievances will be handled in accordance with the grievance policy and procedure.
Models a godly life and is a person of prayer.
Accountability:
The Senior Pastor reports to the President and is accountable to the Membership. The Senior Pastor is recommended to the Membership by the Board and is called by a two-thirds vote of the Membership and may be terminated by a two-thirds vote of the Board and by a confirming written two-thirds vote of the Members voting in a Special Meeting called for that purpose.

Qualification’s:

The Senior Pastor holds a bachelor’s degree, is a graduate of an accredited Seminary and is ordained as a minister in the Protestant tradition.

Salary

Salary Range based on experience: $72,779 to $99,000.  Vacation, sick days, holidays, medical & dental insurance, Group Life insurance, 403B (9) Church Plan.
