Our Mission: Based on the founding belief that each of us is created in God’s image, we offer help, hope, and compassion to anyone with essential needs.

Since 1989, The Father Fred Foundation has been helping individuals and families with their essential immediate needs. Above all, we work to nurture hope when all else seems hopeless. What we have is given free of charge to those in need. We serve five local counties and we welcome all individuals. Every week a dedicated team of volunteers and staff are the hands and hearts of Father Fred.

This is a part time position, flexibly scheduled. The chaplain maintains a presence throughout the organization, personifying and reinforcing the Christian values that support and sustain The Foundation. The chaplain supports policies, procedures and practices that promote the mission of The Foundation. As with all Foundation positions, adherence to strict confidentiality is an expectation.

Specific Duties:

Pastoral Tasks:

Offers reflection and prayer as appropriate to guests, volunteers and staff
Is proactive and takes initiative, seeking out opportunities to offer spiritual and emotional support, as appropriate and without evangelization or proselytization
Initiates critical conversations, as needed with guests, volunteers and staff
Welcomes and onboards volunteers and staff who are new to The Foundation
Helps guests, volunteers and staff identify their external and internal resources to facilitate coping strategies and safety-planning
Develops and leads retreats, group activities, and training sessions, as needed
Public Persona Tasks:

Serve as the primary liaison with faith-based communities (all denominations), developing and nurturing personal contacts with these groups, keeping current on the needs of their congregations and addressing them with The Foundation’s Program Committee, exploring opportunities to meet those needs
With support of the Communications’ Manager, provide updates and information to faith-based communities about Foundation services, how to access support or refer as applicable
Support the Volunteer Manager with soliciting volunteers, primarily within faith-based communities: including special project, committee, board volunteers
Represents the Foundation at community events, through media outlets, and articles written for publication such as The Foundation newsletter
Offers prayers, reflection, presentations, services and sermons in support of The Foundation’s work, at selected community meetings, celebrations and other public events
Supports Foundation fundraising efforts by engaging specific donors and participating in fundraising events as determined by the Executive Director
Represents the Foundation while developing and deepening collaborative relationships within the community
Staff Tasks:

Leads activities to support the integration of The Foundation’s Mission
Provides support with preparing materials for volunteer training and staff development that reinforce The Foundation’s Mission and philosophy of generosity and compassion
Participates in and contributes to staff meetings
On an as needed basis, substitutes for financial assistance or guest intake services
Participates in special events as needed
Other duties as required
Skills & Qualifications

Has experience leading and facilitating group activities
Is comfortable having critical conversations and can actively listen
Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors in Divinity, Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Spirituality

Ecclesiastical Endorsement by one’s faith denomination

Completion of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) by an accredited ACPE Center: Or, if in process, completion within one year

Preferred Requirements:

Completion of 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) by an accredited ACPE Center

Board-Certification from the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC) or Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains. (Board certification assures ecclesiastical endorsement as this endorsement is part of the certification process.)

Working Conditions:

1. Works in well lighted, clean, smoke free surroundings

2. Work is subject to frequent interruptions

3. Interacts with various and diverse populations including homeless individuals and families

4. Work is occasionally very fast paced, with tight deadlines and periods of high stress

Physical Requirements:

Manual dexterity enough to operate a multi-line telephone system, keyboard, copier, scanner, calculator and other office equipment
Sitting and/or standing for long periods of time
Standing, stretching and stooping to reach files and office supplies
Occasional lifting of files and paper to 25 pounds
Viewing computer screen for long periods of time
