Fairview Church is a caring congregation in Danville, VA. We are searching for a Pastor because our pastor is preparing to retire.  We are an independent Methodist Church looking to grow in faith in our community.

Fairview Church is a Christ-centered and welcoming church that loves the community in undeniable ways. Fairview has gathered to worship, grow, and serve since it was organized more than 100 years ago, in 1912. We partner ministries and other organizations in Danville to respond to the needs of our community.

Fairview Church has a mission to connect people to God and to one another. It is a church where all persons can find healing in Jesus and friendship within the congregation. Fairview works to “…make disciples of all nations…in the name of the Father … Son and … Holy Spirit…”. (Matthew 28:19)

 

Responsibilities include::

Preach the Word of God, lead worship services (8:30 and 11:00 a.m.), counsel the distressed and grieving, preside at weddings and funerals, and visit in homes, church, and community.
Celebrate the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, instruct parents and sponsors before baptizing infants and children, encourage reaffirmation of baptismal covenant and vows, encourage profession of faith after instruction, explain meaning of Lord’s Supper and encourage participation, select and train laity to assist in communion, and encourage means of grace.
Serve with the administrative council to manage the church; support, guide, and train lay leadership; create mutual accountability; oversee the educational programs of the church; and goal setting, planning, and evaluation.
Coordinate the temporal affairs of the church (physical facilities, finance, welfare services, materials management, and information systems), administer the provision of our church’s bylaws, prepare Charge Conference reporting of ministries, give leadership for funding ministry, and promote faithful and financial stewardship.
Embody the teachings of Jesus in servant Ministries and leadership and build Fairview as a caring and giving community as part of the body of Christ.

Skills to have (or preferred):

College (4-year degree) or Biblical Degree or 5 years as Lead Pastor.
Master of Divinity or Master of Theology degree from accredited Seminary/Divinity School. (preferred)
Rooted in Methodist Theology.
Applicant must be a citizen of the United States of America or authorized to work in the United States.
Demonstrated competency with the emotional intelligence to tactfully interface with and serve diverse age groups within the church and community.
High capacity to be collaborative and team-focused and high capacity for work and responsibility, as well as the ability to appropriately prioritize and delegate.
Demonstrated experience in organizational leadership; the ability to build, develop, and lead teams of leaders.
Appreciation for and understanding of technology, including social media and virtual ministry operations. (preferred)
