Elizabeth House exists to empower pregnant and parenting women in need to reclaim their lives and build successful family legacies. This is done through providing shelter, hope, and support, addressing the physical, emotional, spiritual, and economic needs of those in our residential, alumni and community-based programs. We strive to provide programs that improve the lifespan physical and mental health outcomes of vulnerable pregnant and parenting mothers and their developing young children.  Mothers come to Elizabeth House with histories of trauma which effect their ability to lead stable, healthy lives.  Our programs empower mothers to break the intergenerational cycle of trauma, heal from their pasts, and learn new ways of living so they can build healthy futures for their children.

The Position

As the Resident Care Supervisor (RCS) you are responsible for overseeing the everyday operations of the Elizabeth House residential program. The RCS oversees the chores and general schedules of the residents, receives donations, greets Elizabeth House guests, and is the authority for compliancy to house rules, policies, and procedures while on duty. This position is key in supporting the transformation of women’s lives through fostering an environment of emotional health, safety and belonging. It is expected that the RCS will engage with the women of Elizabeth House through a trauma-informed care lens as well as an understanding and sensitivity to the impact of systemic racism in the lives of the families served. As the RCS you are also in charge of cooking dinner for the residents and helping to set the menu with the other RCS who shares this shift.

As the General Assistant (GA) you are responsible for helping with donations and other things around the properties. The GA is responsible for helping to sort through and put away donations that come in. The GA is responsible for the cleaning of the El Molino property once a week. During event weeks the GA is responsible for helping the Events Coordinator get things ready for the event, helping with set-up of the event, and helping with tear-down and putting away of things after the event.

The RCS/GA will report to the Director of Programs and work collaboratively with the Program Team.

 

Program Duties

RCS - Supervise the house and those in it.

·       Preparing meals and planning menus for residents

·       Receive in-kind donations for Elizabeth House.

·       Maintain general upkeep and organization of the houses and yard.

·       Distribute requested supplies to residents and alumni.

·       Welcome new residents and orient them to the house.

·       Receive visitors in a gracious and hospitable way.

·       Record house activities and updates of residents.

·       Answer the phone and conduct intake calls.

·       Maintain and, when necessary, enforce Elizabeth House policies and procedure.

o   Supervise residents’ schedules, visitors, and chores.

o   Mediate between residents when needed.

o   Complete a daily check of rooms and chores

 

General Assistant Duties

Working on Properties

·       Sorting through donations and putting them away

·       Moving furniture, supplies, and equipment as necessary.

·       Maintain general upkeep and organization of the houses and yard.

·       General help with whatever is needed by Program Team.

·       Helping to prepare for, set up for, and tear down events.

 

Support programming and goals of Elizabeth House

·       Participate in bi-weekly Elizabeth House staff meetings as well as trainings and some events.

·       Work as a team with all other staff to provide comprehensive client services.

o   Model and support healthy behaviors.

o   Provide crisis intervention, conflict resolution and related support services to residents.

o   Encourage residents to engage with programming.

·       Engage in trauma-informed care while working with clients

·       Demonstrate cultural humility and understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion while working with residents, alumni, children, and guests

·       Create an environment where residents feel safe, empowered, and affirmed.

o   Become a resource for residents in search of a confidential listening ear.

o   Encourage a cooperative atmosphere in the household.

o   Plan community-forming events for residents, such as movie night, game night, etc. with intentionality.

o   Facilitate and lead the family mealtime at dinner.

·       Provide transportation in company SUV for residents in case of an emergency.

 

Qualifications

·       High School diploma or equivalent

·       Bilingual – Spanish/English (preferred, not required)

·       Valid California driver’s license with ability to transport clients.

·       Must have a working vehicle with car insurance and registration

·       Ability to lift and move furnishings, equipment, donations, and supplies.

·       Ability to prepare meals and create menus

·       Ability to attend staff meetings twice monthly on Monday mornings.

·       Ability to establish rapport and connection with clients and their children through a trauma-informed care lens.

 

Proposed Hours & Compensation

The position is a part-time, hourly and non-exempt role. The positions hours are as follows:

RCS: Monday and Friday      4:00 – 11:00pm - with extra hours filling in for other RCS who may not be able to work their shifts

GA: Tuesday and Thursday    10:00am – 2:00pm

Staff Meeting: Twice monthly on Monday 9:00 – 10:30am

Event weeks - Friday 9:00am – 12:00pm, and Saturday 9:00am – 2:00pm
