Position: Juvenile Detention Facilities Chaplain Intern
Intern will work closely with the Chaplain to provide as needed worship services, Bible study classes and chaplaincy services orientation classes. Additionally, intern will meet with youth to offer one-on-one pastoral counseling and respond to request forms for religious literature and materials. Participate in staff meetings, training, and fundraising events. Some travel required between San Jose and Morgan Hill facilities. Possibility of working with adults at Elmwood.
Interns will be supervised by the Facilities Chaplain. Intern will meet weekly with chaplain to discuss their spiritual care experiences. A spiritual reflection paper will be due at end of internship.
Interns must have a B.A./B.S. degree or currently enrolled in an accredited graduate or seminary program which offers course credit for internships. Applicants should have completed course work in religious studies, theology, or related field. Interns must clear a security background check, pass the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) exam and agree to follow ministry and probation department policies and procedures.
Length of Internship
Negotiable and Flexible: 12 weeks/10-20 hours per week desired
