JOB DESCRIPTION
CHURCH ON THE ROCK - PASTOR
Qualifications Background, and Experience:
Meet the Scriptural qualifications for Pastor as set forth in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and 5:17-20; Acts 20:28-31; Ephesians 4:11; 1 Peter 5:1-3; 1 Corinthians 9:6-14; Titus 1:5-9
Prefer an undergraduate or higher degree from a Bible college or other institution.
Desire a minimum of five years lead pastoral experience.
Be in complete agreement with Church On The Rock doctrinal statement
Know the Word and have Scriptural insight.
Have an emphasis on expository preaching with a clear aim, continuity, and application.
Love the Lord Jesus Christ, the flock, and the lost who do not know Christ.
Recognize the need to be a growing Christian.
Be able to feed and motivate the flock to recognize their spiritual gifts.
Be above moral reproach.
Be financially responsible; handling money wisely, being sensitive to the needs of the church.
Be committed to the spiritual excellence of the church leaders, the church family, and oneself.
Be able to prove himself faithful and able to guide others by managing his own household well; should have believing and obedient children.
Have a deep, sincere desire to visit folks; both regular attendees and visitors.
Duties and Responsibilities
Preach the Word in and out of season
Administer the ordinances of the church, and perform the various duties
incumbent upon his office.
Be in daily prayer for Church On The Rock leaders and church family.
Lead the church family in teaching and evangelization.
Lead the church family in becoming active disciples of Jesus Christ, and use their spiritual gifts to further the church.
Live a life that is above reproach, living what is preached, and leading by example.
Be approachable and able to recognize the needs of others and act to meet those needs.
Provide Biblical counseling and exhibit strong pastoral care qualities.
Lead his family spiritually and morally, according to Scriptural principles.
Oversee the church leadership to ensure that the flock is shepherded; be on guard for the flock.
Be responsible for directing the activities of voluntary and paid church help.
Recognize that pastor, the church Elder Board, and the church family are to be servants.
Be accountable to Elder Board. Be part of the body of Elders, equal in participation.
Be creative in his approach to ministry.
Have a visitation ministry.
Be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit as to the needs of the church family and preparing to meet these other aspects of the position.
Preach a minimum of 45 times per year. Any less than that will require Elder Board approval.
Supervise and build up ministry staff as required to meet the needs of the church
family, and according to their ability.
Attempt to minister to the needs of the Elders.
Always be aware of the attempts by Satan to deceive the church family, the ministry staff, the Elders, and other church leaders. Protect them by ‘rightly dividing the Word of Truth’.
Use God’s Word to address and resolve conflicts and issues which occur.
