Calvary by the Sea Montessori School is dedicated to the Montessori philosophy, a Christian education and is strongly invested in creating a unique, student-centered learning environment and helping families nurture respectful, responsible, and resourceful children. Our highly qualified staff fosters a love of learning and help all our children reach their fullest potential at their own unique pace. We strive to educate the whole child and to inspire children to be caring, socially responsible participants both in our community and in the larger world.

Founded in 1955, the school became a Montessori School in 1978 and is a non-profit, private education institution for children ages 2–6. It is a mission of Calvary by the Sea Lutheran Church in Honolulu, and has a dedicated staff. The total enrollment combined capacity across our campus is 75 students. Job Description:

Our school is looking for a leader who shares our passion for education and children. With the ability to offer administration, curriculum ideas, overall growth of school and enrollment of the students. Attract and retain great staff, build a strong parent community, and ensure the educational experience for each child in every classroom is of the highest standard. As the Head of School, you'll be responsible for providing leadership to the entire campus team. This is an opportunity to contribute to a high-quality educational program that serves the individual needs of each child and parent.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
·      Developing a strategic plan for the current and future use of the campus
·      Creating a strong culture that embodies the mission of our organization
·      Building a strong community among staff, parents, and children
·      Ensuring delivery of an exceptional program
·      Ensuring overall profitability targets are met (including managing campus budget)
·      Oversee enrollment targets are met
·      Hiring, supporting, developing, and managing teaching staff
Preferred Qualifications:

-       Dedication to the practice of the Montessori educational philosophy and Christian education
-       Master’s Degree preferred
-       Montessori training, AMI and/or AMS preferred
-       Independent school administration or head of educational department experience
-       Coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development
-       Demonstrated leadership qualities
-       Excellent written and, verbal interpersonal and communication skills
-       Curriculum development experience
-       3+ years of experience as a school administrator or school educator
-       An aptitude for creating a warm and benevolent team culture
-       Strong leadership and the ability to make the tough decisions with limited information
-       A passion for getting education right through the Montessori pedagogy

·      Support, provide oversight, monitor and evaluate quality implementation of Montessori pedagogy, curriculum, and programs
·      Cultivate effective relationships with all constituents of the school
·      Work directly with the Senior Pastor, Administrative Assistant and Bookkeeper to create a compelling culture which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality
·      Support, mentor and provide spiritual care to all staff
·      Model and sustain a culture of giving, volunteerism, global awareness and citizenship at the school
·      Represent the school at community and professional events


·      Execute efficient management of the school, with regard to educational philosophy and fiscal responsibility
·      Prepare, understand and analyze non-profit financial documents along with the Bookkeeper
·      Ensure that the school meets all regulatory requirements and pursues the highest level of quality educational standards
·      Drive enrollment and student retention in all programs
·      Oversee annual performance reviews for all staff
·      Effectively assess and mitigate risks that could impact the school
·      Generate, analyze, and report data to support continuous process improvement for the
·      Provide monthly report to the Congregational Council on the school’s finances and activities
·      Plan and manage the logistics of school events, including food drives, walkathons, teambuilding events as well as other venues and programs

Fund Development

·      Serve as chief development agent to plan, identify, cultivate, solicit, and secure funding resources to help the school fulfill its mission and strategic objectives
·      Actively promote the capital campaign to expand and enhance facilities
·      Monitor, report and evaluate resource and fund development outcomes


·      Cultivate and maintain effective, constructive communication with the Congregational Council, church staff and school staff
·      Oversee effective marketing, communications, and outreach through mass media including web, print, and social media to maintain and increase the school’s visibility
·      Communicate achievements, progress, and milestones to the school and church community
·      Oversee all internal school communications to foster an atmosphere of team building and inclusiveness

Type of Position: Full-time, year-round, exempt status
