Position Overview

As a member of the Berkeley Christian Counselors (BCC) Clinical team, each Associate Marriage Family Therapist/Associate Clinical Social Worker/Associate Professional Clinical Counselor provides excellent direct client clinical service (telehealth and/or in person) in accordance with the California Board of Behavioral Science (BBS) and to accomplish the mission of the counseling center and the church. Non-Licensed Clinicians at BCC abide by the policies and procedures of the clinic and support the Executive Director to achieve the objectives and efficient operation of BCC.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Excellence

  • Overall (under the supervision of the BCC Clinical Supervisors)
    • Implement integrity, high ethical standards and counseling competence in clinical practice
    • Foster an environment of teaming and collaboration amongst the counselors
    • Protect the welfare of clients by application of appropriate practices
    • Comply with BCC policies and procedures in keeping with BBS guidelines in all areas of clinical practice and including but not limited to: record keeping, client confidentiality, issues of diversity, ethical and legal concerns, mandated reporting laws and the like.
    • Maintain a California AMFT/ACSW/APCC registration in good standing with the BBS
    • Maintain professional liability insurance in keeping with professional standards
  • Training (in partnership with and under the direction of the Clinical Supervision Team and the Executive Director)
    • Increase professional competencies by acquiring, improving, and refining the skills required by your role and function through regular continuing education and training
    • Contribute to BCC’s inventory of continuing education resources and assets
    • Extend training to BCC counselors, when appropriate, based on your own professional area(s) of expertise

2. Theological Integration

  • Actively work to integrate Christian faith and evidenced based psychological principles and practices
  • Provide spiritual support and nurturing of clients and fellow counselors as part of the BCC team

3. General

  • Publicity and Marketing
    • AMFT/ACSW/APCC must engage in BCC outreach (3 hours minimally on a quarterly basis) to bring in new clients (i.e. represent BCC at a mental health fair, give a presentation at a local church, manage the BCC Facebook page)
      • Develop ongoing and positive awareness of BCC among other churches, counselors, clinics, medical centers, etc.
    • Other duties as assigned by Executive Director or Clinical Supervisors

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Personal and growing faith in Jesus Christ
  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, clinical psychology or other comparable counseling field
  • Strong clinical psychotherapy skills and experiences

Schedule: Attendance and participation in weekly group supervision is expected. Additionally, individual supervision is extended over and above group supervision (not in lieu of). Certain clinic-wide trainings are also required (usually on Thursday afternoons). Schedule determined by Clinical Director and within 9am – 9pm M-F; 9 – 4pm Saturdays; 9-2pm Sundays.

In light of COVID-19, Berkeley Christian Counselors are providing telehealth counseling with the option for in-person sessions.
