REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor
The Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries will strive to guide
all youth (grades 6 - 12) and young adults (ages 18 - 25) of
Aldersgate United Methodist Church (“AUMC”) as disciples of
Jesus Christ. Through gatherings as God’s people and growing in
faith and love, this person will work with students and young adults
who are interested in the knowledge of God, and support them to
further develop their love for Him and for others. The Director will
serve as a role model to youth and young adults and be an engaging
spiritual leader within the church.
DESCRIPTION
The Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries is responsible for
designing, coordinating and facilitating a comprehensive, biblical,
youth and young adult ministry program focused on building
young disciples for Jesus Christ. By building trusting relationships
and responding to spiritual needs of teens and young adults, the
Director will develop a ministry of education and experiences within the Christian faith. By supporting and counseling young people on their journey from childhood to adulthood, the Director will identify and strengthen their gifts for ministry, answer their questions about spirituality, and encourage their desire to make a difference in the world.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries is responsible for
programs associated with youth and young adults. Areas of focus
include group building, worship, discipleship, curriculum and
instruction, book and podcast studies, missions, and outreach. Such
programs will include, but are not limited to: confirmation experience, worship services, support services, Sunday School, retreats, missions, and other youth focused activities as deemed
appropriate. The Director will develop relationships with the community, schools, churches, and other youth-based organizations. The Director is also responsible for managing communications of all youth ministry activities to relevant stakeholders.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Design and implement ministry programs and activities to inspire, challenge and equip youth and young adults to be disciples of Jesus Christ
Recruit, train and coordinate both youth and adult leadership within the congregation for ministry
activities and programs
Participate (direct/organize as appropriate) in worship services, missions, youth rallies, confirmation, Sunday School, retreats and other activities
Ensure all youth and young adults have full access to ministry activities embracing diversity, equity and inclusion
Participate in AUMC leadership meetings and other meetings as required
Develop and maintain communications pertaining to youth and young adult ministry activities with all stakeholders, including the use of current and appropriate technology
Develop and maintain an online presence for AUMC youth and young adult ministries including social media
Establish programs that connect to young people who are not currently part of AUMC
Connect with local schools and community agencies to further promote AUMC programs and offer support through mission work
Develop and deliver youth and young adult curriculum through effective instruction
Collaborate with youth and young adults to develop programs and activities
Evaluate and adjust programs on an ongoing basis
Develop marketing strategies to encourage participation in youth and young adult ministries
Prepare, manage and monitor the Youth and Young Adult Ministries budget
Maintain Student Ministry Center facilities
Create and organize fundraising opportunities
Support participants in their own personal activities and accomplishments
Participate in professional learning through continuing education
Perform other youth and young adult ministry related duties, as assigned or as the needs develop
QUALIFICATIONS
Shows evidence of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a mature faith
Bachelor’s degree preferred with demonstrated specialized knowledge and experience in youth and/or young adult ministry
Minimum one year leadership and program development of youth and/or young adult ministry preferred
Possesses positive interpersonal skills with leadership characteristics while also capable of being a productive team member
Demonstrates the ability to relate to people of all ages
Possesses strong oral and written communication skills incorporating appropriate technology
Requires flexibility in work schedule
