Silver Lake Community Church is a small PC(USA) congregation in the heart of Los Angeles. Our Children’s Ministry is healthy, growing, and full of energy. We’re looking for a leader who can nurture what’s already thriving and expand the ministry as our children grow and new families join us.
ROLE: Lead a Christ-centered program for children and youth (Nursery through High School) and provide light administrative support to the Pastor / Head of Staff alongside the Office Manager. At present, the role includes 20 hours of Family Ministries and 10 hours of administrative support; as the ministry grows, the administrative portion will phase out, and the position will become a full 30-hour Family Ministries role.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Provide overall leadership and vision for Family Ministries (Nursery through High School) that supports children, youth, and families in their spiritual formation.
-Create and launch a Junior High and High School ministry, establishing its structure, relationships, and programming.
- Pray regularly for volunteers, children, youth, and families.
- Uphold and implement the church’s child safety policy; ensure all volunteers are trained, compliant, and practicing safe ministry.
- Select, develop, and schedule curriculum for all age groups; teach or supervise Sunday School each week.
- Build relationships with children, youth, and families; plan gatherings, Bible studies, service projects, and special events that nurture discipleship.
- Create an annual calendar of family ministry events including seasonal celebrations, parent equipping workshops, fellowship activities, service opportunities that align with the church’s mission.
- Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers.
- Communicate regularly with families about ministry activities, curriculum themes, and faith-at-home support.
- Maintain clear communication with church leaders and the congregation regarding the purpose and vision of Family Ministries.
- Collaborate with the Pastor to express appreciation for volunteers, including coordinating an annual celebration.
- Attend in person weekly staff meetings.
- Manage the Family Ministries budget; purchase and maintain curriculum, snacks, and materials.
- Maintain accurate rosters, schedules, communication systems, and administrative records.
Administrative Support to the Pastor (10 hours/week):
- Provide light administrative support to the Pastor / Head of Staff, including scheduling, email communication, and meeting coordination.
- Assist with weekly worship preparation (announcements and volunteer coordination).
- Help maintain church calendars, records, files, and communication lists in collaboration with the Office Manager.
- Assist with weekly email preparation, announcement updates, and basic website or social media communication as needed.
- Support ministry logistics by organizing documents, sign-ups, volunteer lists, and ordering supplies as requested.
